Golden Globe Predictions

Today’s the day! The Golden Globes are tonight, and I couldn’t be more excited. In fact, I’m watching the E! Countdown to the Red Carpet as I write this post. As a huge fan, I can’t wait to see Jimmy Fallon host the show. Everyone loves the Tonight Show host, and I think he will do a terrific job. While all award shows lead to the Oscar, the Globes seems to be more enjoyable for the guests being food is served (even though I’ve never noticed eating while on camera) and it is one of the few opportunities for the television and film to collide. So, without further ado, here are some of my Golden Globe predictions:

Best Motion Picture Drama

Hacksaw Ridge

Hell or High Water

Lion

Manchester by the Sea

Moonlight

While I think Manchester by the Sea is the front-runner, the race will still be close with Moonlight. I have simply never seen anything so real, intimate, and important on scene like Moonlight and still hope it will win.

Best Motion Picture Comedy or Musical

20th Century Women

Deadpool

Florence Foster Jenkins

La La Land

Sing Street

LA LA LAND, LA LA LAND, LA LA LAND! The hit-musical that everyone one is talking is a shoo-in to win this category. It will be a huge surprise (more like mistake) if the modern-day musical set in Los Angeles doesn’t win.

Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama

Amy Adams, Arrival

Isabelle Huppert, Elle

Jessica Chastain, Miss Sloane

Natalie Portman, Jackie

Ruth Negga, Loving

Natalie Portman is the one to beat in this category for her beautiful and dynamic portrayal of Jackie Kennedy. If anyone else should would win, it will most likely be Amy Adams for her performance in Arrival.

Best Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical

Annette Bening, 20th Century Women

Emma Stone, La La Land

Hailee Steinfeld, The Edge of Seventeen

Lily Collins, Rules Don’t Apply

Meryl Streep, Florence Foster Jenkins

Emma Stone should and will win her first Golden Globe for her performance in La La Land. While Stone is will most likely win, it wouldn’t be a completely surprise if Meryl Streep won since the Hollywood Foreign Press loves the legendary actress.

Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture

Michelle Williams, Manchester by the Sea

Naomie Harris, Moonlight

Nicole Kidman, Lion

Octavia Spencer, Hidden Figures

Viola Davis, Fences

Viola. Davis. Has. To. Win. That is all.

Best Actor in A Motion Picture Drama

Andrew Garfield, Hacksaw Ridge

Casey Affleck, Manchester by the Sea

Denzel Washington, Fences

Joel Edgerton, Loving

Viggo Mortensen, Captain Fantastic

Affleck is definitely the front-runner in this category for his portrayal a man who must take care of his nephew after his brother’s death, but it would not be a complete surprise if Washington takes the win.

Best Actor in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical

Colin Farrell, The Lobster

Hugh Grant, Florence Foster Jenkins

Jonah Hill, War Dogs

Ryan Gosling, La La Land

Ryan Reynolds, Deadpool

Gosling will, and should, score La La Land another win in their very successful awards season.

Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Nocturnal Animals

Dev Patel, Lion

Jeff Bridges, Hell or High Water

Mahershala Ali, Moonlight

Simon Helberg, Florence Foster Jenkins

Mahershala Ali can’t lose. Period.

Best Director

Barry Jenkins, Moonlight

Damien Chazelle, La La Land

Kenneth Lonergan, Manchester by the Sea

Mel Gibson, Hacksaw Ridge

Tom Ford, Nocturnal Animals

This category is definitely Chazelle’s to lose for his visionary work, but Jenkins is not far behind.

Best Screenplay

Barry Jenkins, Moonlight

Damien Chazelle, La La Land

Kenneth Lonergan, Manchester by the Sea

Taylor Sheridan, Hell or High Water

Tom Ford, Nocturnal Animals

Best Original Score

Dustin O’Halloran, Hauschka, Lion

Hans Zimmer, Pharrell Williams, Benjamin Wallfisch, Hidden Figures

Johann Johannsson, Arrival

Justin Hurwitz, La La Land

Nicholas Britell, Moonlight

La La Land‘s score is too good not to win.

Through my eyes,

Sydney ❤
